Tuition Fees

There ARE NO tuition fees for PhD studies in Computer Engineering.

Living Expenses (estimated from 2003-2004)

The cost of living and study, including food, housing, transport, books, obligatory health insurance (45 euros), social life, study trips etc., is estimated at euro 850 per month. In addition, students will need approximately euro 1,000 to cover initial settling-in expenses.

VISA & Insurance

Visa

Non-Dutch nationals need a visa to enter the Netherlands, with the exception of nationals of European Union member states and Iceland, Monaco, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan. As the visa procedure for individuals is complicated and can take up to eight months, TU Delft offers to obtain visas for graduate students under the so-called ‘accelerated’ procedure.

Health and liability insurance

Having a health and liability insurance is obligatory in the Netherlands. This kind of insurance will cover almost all medical treatment but it will not cover the costs of treatment for already existing diseases, which could have been treated in your home country before coming to the Netherlands, nor the costs of hospital treatment if there are medical grounds for postponing the treatment until you return to your country of origin. The insurance does not cover pregnancy care if the pregnancy started before arrival in the Netherlands. The monthly insurance premium is approximately euro 45.

Work

Students are permitted to work part-time during their study. Income from part-time work should therefore be additional. In other words we advise that you should be able to finance your study without working.

EU and EFTA students do not need a work permit and can work full time.

Non-EU/EFTA students are permitted to work a maximum of 10 hours per week or 3 months full-time during the summer holiday period in June, July and August. A work permit, applied for by the employer, is obligatory.
